Ship Contour Extraction from SAR Image Slice

Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) target detection and identification technology is one of the choke points for SAR practical application, the key of which is effective feature extraction. In terms of high resolution SAR image, target identification performance can be improved if contour feature of target, one of main geometric structures, can be detected accurately. Therefore a method was proposed for contour feature extraction of SAR target based on the Iterative Censoring Scheme (ICS) Constant false alarm rate (CFAR) detector and morphological processing. Performance is extensively tested and evaluated from real images by TerraSAR-X. Experimental results show effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed method.
